It's Baby Making Season! Your 3-Step Fall TTC Formula

The fall and holidays have a reputation as baby making season. Soooo, if a spring or summer baby is on your wish list, now is the time to start trying.

But "just have more sex" isn't a plan. Even for a healthy couple under 35, the odds of conceiving in any single cycle are roughly 20 to 25 percent. That's normal, not a sign something's wrong. What you can do is stop guessing and start working with real information!

So here's our 3-step formula for trying to conceive this fall.

Step 1: Check the swimmers

Fertility is a two-person project! Male factors play a role in roughly half of couples who have trouble conceiving. Yet sperm is usually the last thing anyone checks.

The Ovry Male Fertility Test is a quick at-home screen for lower than normal sperm concentration, one of the leading indicators of male infertility. It comes with a reusable collection cup and gives results in minutes.

Why start here, and why start now? Sperm take about two and a half to three months to fully develop. The swimmers showing up for a December try are being made right now. If the test flags low concentration, you've got time to talk to a doctor and work on the basics: sleep, alcohol, smoking, heat exposure and overall nutrition.

Step 2: Pinpoint your most fertile days

You can only get pregnant during a short fertile window each cycle: about six days, ending on ovulation day. Sperm can survive up to five days in the body, but an egg only lasts 12 to 24 hours after it's released.

That's where Ovry Ovulation Test Strips come in. They detect the surge in luteinizing hormone (LH) that happens right before you ovulate. Ovulation usually follows within about 24 to 36 hours of a positive, so that day and the next are your prime time.

A few tips to get the most out of them:

  • Start testing a few days before you expect to ovulate. Not sure when that is? Try our free ovulation calculator.
  • Test at the same time each day and go easy on fluids for a couple of hours beforehand.
  • Irregular cycles? Start on cycle day 7 and continue until you get a positive. Having plenty of strips on hand means you won't miss your surge.
  • Pair your results with body signs like fertile cervical mucus for an even clearer picture.

Step 3: Test early

The two-week wait is real and it's ROUGH. Our ultra-sensitive Pregnancy Test Strips detect hCG, the hormone your body starts making after implantation, so you can find out sooner.

Implantation usually happens 6 to 12 days after ovulation, and hCG builds from there. Testing up to 6 days before your missed period is possible, but a negative that early doesn't always mean no. If your period doesn't show, test again in a couple of days.Your first pee of the day gives you the most concentrated sample.
